Breastfeeding mother asked to leave from Restaurant

A mother who was breastfeeding her child at a Boca Raton restaurant claims that she was asked to over up and when she did not, the restaurant staff asked her to leave.

The mother, Anala Leichtman was dining with her husband and a few of their friends at Relish & More on Wednesday.

She was approached by a staff member after the employees noticed that she was breastfeeding her child.

Mrs. Leichtman was covered with a blanket, but other restaurant-goers complained to the employee who told Leichtman, “Honey, you have to cover that up. You can’t do that here,” according to Yahoo.

Leichtman said, “I got up and went to my car to finish feeding my son. When I returned, the employee apologized but said that another table was complaining and threatening to leave. She gave us a $25 gift card for our trouble.”

According to Florida state law, Leichtman did have the right to breastfeed her son inside the restaurant. The law states: “A mother may breastfeed her baby in any location, public or private, where the mother is otherwise authorized to be, irrespective of whether the nipple of the mother’s breast is uncovered during or incidental to the breastfeed.”

The couple, unhappy with the actions of the restaurant, took to social media to express how they felt about the way they were treated. They posted a picture to Facebook with the caption, “This was absolutely humiliating. Almost a year old and until this point, we had never had a word said to us about breastfeeding until today.”
