‘I'll do in 50 months what others failed to do in 50 years’, says Modi in Varanasi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the popular slogan of 'Garibi Hatao' to indirectly target the previous Congress-led governments. Expressing his commitment, PM said he will do the task in 50 months what they failed to do in 50 years. He mocked opposition for questions on Jan Dhan Yojana.

Narendra Modi questioned, "Those who kept poor away from banking facilities even after four decades of nationalization of banks are seeking account of such a scheme of government which has brought Rs 30,000 crores cash in rotation in a record time."

"I am surprised that those who did not open a single account in bank are showing their concern that the accounts are not being operated properly. I am here to tell them that what they failed to do in 50 years, I will do in 50 months), he said.

Modi said that although we are hearing 'Garibi hatao' slogan for 40-50 years. Nothing was done in concrete to eliminate poverty in the country. He added no desired results were received from whatever experiments done till now for the eradication of poverty. He opined that, appeal to the poor to send their wards to school foe education is the only option that is best to fight against poverty in the country.
